Giving your dog a bone after meals can be highly beneficial. In addition to receiving the nutrients found in bone marrow and the bones themselves, our canine friends get the equivalent of a good brushing and flossing. This helps to break down tartar and reduces the risk of gum disease. Chewing helps stimulate saliva enzymes which helps with digestion, and when given AFTER meals for 10 or 15 minutes helps remove trapped food particles from the teeth. Using fresh chicken from the mercado, I use all of the meat, skin, fat and organ meat. I use the wing and rib bones, this provides a good amount of calcium, phosphorus and other nutrients, but is not enough to cause constipation.
